lyrics

October Nights

There could have been a new baby, there could have been a new mother
A thing there was no temperament for
She gave it to the wind she did, she gave it to the raven’s nest
She gave it up to the moon and stars

We rock n rolled in that cabin there underneath the tall tall pines
When the winds broke, they seemed to stir the sky
We watched them from the window there as the tall trees swept the air
We rock n rolled without a care into October nights

Praise, praise, praise be to life
First you’re here and then you’re gone
Never seems to last so long
Praise be to the infinite aspect of ourselves

Seagulls squawked and seagulls soared as our small ship left the shore
Destined for unknown lands
We watched them from the railing there as their wingtips brushed the air
The painted arabesque hung there till it vanished from our sight

Praise, praise, praise be to life
First you’re here and then you’re gone
Never seems to last so long
Praise be to the infinite aspect of ourselves

360 degrees around surrounded by only sea sound
Water in a small glass jar
And the hand which in that jar was held supported us very well
As we dove and rose with every swell into uncharted night

Praise, praise, praise be to life
First you’re here and then you’re gone
Never seems to last so long
Praise be to the infinite aspect of ourselves

Winds came up, waves got rough as she decided to really show her stuff
Forced us down into the hold
Swapping stories of the beast with holes like traps that just increased
Till we were left to view the feat in wild naked wonder

Praise, praise, praise be to life
First you’re here and then you’re gone
Never seems to last so long
Praise be to the infinite aspect of ourselves

Winds they blew with such a force, drove our tiny ship up north
As winter’s garments settled all around
Ensconced in ice from bow to stern, we got that there was more to learn
And in the cold we’d really burn till summer came again

Praise, praise, praise be to life
First you’re here and then you’re gone
Never seems to last so long
Praise be to the infinite aspect of ourselves

T ‘was in the morning of the day we watched the ice floes break away
From the confines of the heart
We saw ourselves as we were then, we’d seen the cycle to its end
We parted but went on as friends to a place called home
